New Year, New Pattern, HURRAH!

I wanted to make a pair of socks with my beloved Drops Nord - I just totally love that yarn, it can do no wrong.

I’m not sure what makes it so scrumptious but I suspect it has something to do with the high alpaca content and the lack of usual alpaca itch. I have previously made a pair of socks using alpaca yarn and they are the warmest, most lovely pair of socks I own so I knew that I was on to a winter warming winner and the powder pink colourway is perfect, do you agree?

The pattern was supposed to be a vintage stitch but I made a mistake when I was working it out and did something completely (completely) different. Thing is, after I figured out what I was doing wrong I realised that I kinda liked it anyway and so a new stitch was born and my socks remained fabulous. Ha!

The pattern is for a 64 stitch sock, which I call average adult female size, worked on 2.25mm needles and written for the magic loop sock knitting method.

The pattern comes with instructions for a traditional heel flap and gusset (my personal favourite), and a standard toe. You can of course insert your own favourite heel and toe as you wish.

I used the best part of 2 x 50g balls of Drops Nord and the results are SO fabulous, they are so thick and fluffy it is unreal and the perfect socks for winter welly wearing.

You can of course make the socks using any sock yarn/4ply/fingering weight yarn you like, the gauge might be slightly off and they won’t be quite as woolly but I’m sure they will look fabulous nonetheless. The stitch pattern is quite stretchy so I’m sure it will accommodate any yarn you throw at it.
