episode 144 | summer striped tee

EPISODE 144 SHOW NOTES

Very excited about my striped summer tee, I have to say that it looks and feels lovely on and I’m sure to make another one soon.

Summer Striped Tee

FINISHED

I finished my super bright Summer Striped Tee.

Hurrah!

I used the So Faded pattern by Andrea Mowry and instead of fading just block striped using two Madelinetosh merino light colours Pop Rocks (pink) and Candlewick (yellow). They had been in my stash since 2016 so it was about time eh?

I made a size 4 and I didn’t swatch, very risky business, but it has turned out quite roomy, certainly the kind of roomy you want in a knitted summer tee.

I ran out of Pop Rocks right at the end, I would have liked to do the full number of rows (I think either 32 or 33) but didn’t quite make it and so I started a short ribbing and had to work half the cast off in another yarn that’s a bit lighter than Pop Rocks but not too terrible.

I’ve got a tiny bit of Candlewick left and I think I’m going to use it to add a bit of length to the sleeves, I just think they could do with a tiny bit more to balance the top out a bit better (might be being fussy on this but seeing as I have the yarn I might as well eh?

I used the recommended needles and didn’t modify the pattern at all except for block striping instead of fading. I do think it’s a great pattern for a summer tee, it’s so light and the sleeves are easy to finish off after the garter stitch section.

All in all, very pleased with this stash busting project, probably one of my most favourite things I’ve ever knit.

NEW

I started something new, I just fancied it and decided to make a pair of summer watermelon socks using the Footsie yarn from King Cole.

I’ve talked about this yarn before, it’s weirdly acrylic but feels very cottony so is perfect for summer - although no doubt will make your feet sweat!!

I’m using the Watermelon (4905) colourway and I’m making a second pair of these Footsie socks for Betsy, she really likes the cool feeling of the yarn. I’m just working 60sts on 2.25mm needles with a shadow wrap heel.

Watermelon Socks

REVIVED

I’m in the middle of a big clear out, I usually have a big Marie Kondo style clear out every five years or so, and I found Helianne lurking in the bottom of a bag, remember her??

I’ve decided to give her one more chance, I’m going to attempt to get those sleeves on and fingers crossed it will work and she will be done. I really want it to be done too because I love this top.

The pattern is by Phildar, a French yarn brand and the pattern is from one of their summer crochet books No. 155. I bought all the yarn from Phildar direct, back in the days when you could get parcels from France relatively easily, and it is Phildar Coton 3 with one ball of Phildar Multico for the multicoloured sections.

Helianne aka Hellish Anne :D
